I loved Mike Borders’ expression when I asked him to hold up his trophy, the road-kill buzzard that almost fell in Marsha’s lap on the first leg last month.

“You don’t really want me to hold THAT?” he asked. When I assured him I did, his expression said it all.

Not to be outdone by the NASCAR – buzzard stunt, the #68 Camaro goes for a more subtle approach in picking up hitch hikers on the Northbound leg.

Yes Virginia…. in Texas, not only do we race our trucks, they also double as radar platforms. Note the plate on the tailgate from the four star restaurant, The Road Side Road Kill Bar & Grill. (Darn son with the money you saved on the meal seems you could afford a shave.)

What can you say about the driver of this car? He reminds me of my papa, a true West Texas Gentleman. We were talking in the store the morning of the race and both of us agreed that every day we spend above ground is a good day. Enjoy the old storytellers; we don’t get to keep them forever.
