We are happy to be a big part of “The Most Challenging Open Road Race in the World.” If this is your first time to visit Sanderson, sit back, hold on, and enjoy the ride. Drivers come from all over to throw their hats in the ring at a chance to drive in the open road race. Make plans to see this event up-close and personal! This year’s race will be held April 25th-28th starting with registration, tech inspection, rookie school, and practice runs. Drivers get to enjoy 2 days of practice runs which will be held on Highway 90 west of Sanderson, on Wednesday, April 25th and Thursday, April 26th. The drivers are also invited to visit Sanderson Elementary School. This year marks the 9th year that we have visited the children and brought a little of the race excitement to the kids. Thursday evening rounds off with a Welcome Party hosted by the Sanderson Chamber of Commerce at the Bicentennial Park. Friday, the activities are held in Fort Stockton. Race Day begins Saturday morning as drivers arrive in Sanderson at an event called the turn-around. During the turn around drivers are directed and parked around the Terrell County Court house square where the drivers, visitors, and members of the community enjoy the festive atmosphere that the race brings. There is food, music, and tons of fun for everyone.
